About Gene Walters

website picture9About Gene Walters

I was born to be a Bulldog.  My mother is a proud graduate of the OHS Class of 1955.  My father was a 1956 graduate.  I am a member of the class of 1976.  I have two brothers who are also graduates of Okmulgee High School,  Kerry, who graduated in 1979 and Jim, who graduated in 1982.   My daughter, Tara, is a 2005 graduate, son-in-law Chance is a class of 2003 member, and my son, Chris, graduated in 2008.  I also have nieces, nephews, and other family members who are OHS Alumni. Though she did not graduate from OHS, my wife,  Starla has taught at Okmulgee High School for 37 years. Okmulgee Public Schools has been a focal point in the life of the Walters' family. We have invested over 200 years of service with Okmulgee Public Schools as students and employees.

I have seen a lot of changes in Okmulgee since my days at Wilson Elementary, Okmulgee Jr. High, and Okmulgee High School. Our town and our schools have changed so much in these past 40 odd years. We are not the OHS of our past. I have watched this evolution from the 60's and now beginning the 2020’s. Things are different but one thing remains constant- we are still able to produce fine young men and women who go on to achieve amazing things in their lives. These are the things that make me the most proud of Okmulgee High School.

We must never forget our glorious past. We do, however, owe it to the future of OHS to be the BEST BULLDOGS we can be in all phases of  school life. Let's have a fantastic 2020-2021 school year and continue to make more memories of one of the greatest times of our lives.

Be a BULLDOG everyday!!!

An old dog from 1976
