About Laura Montgomery


My name is Laura P. Montgomery and I am the In School Detention Teacher. I was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on July 24, 1955.  I went to Attucks Elementary, Dunbar High School, and Okmulgee High School.  I graduated from Okmulgee High School in May 1973.  I attended Langston University in August 1973 graduated in December 1976. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education(1-8), with endorsements in Language Arts(6-8) and Social Studies(6-8).  I did Substitute Teaching, January 1977 until May 1979.  I started teaching in August 1979 at Boley State Training School for Boys.  Next school year  I was at Boley Elementary teaching 2nd grade.  I also taught 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades.  In 1991, I started teaching at Tulsa Public School.  I taught most of the years 6th grade Language Arts and two years 6th grade Social Studies.  I retired from teaching in May 2007. Altogether I have taught for 28 years. I taught 12 years at Boley Public Schools and then 16 years at Tulsa Public Schools. I started Substitute Teaching in 2010.  Then I was asked to be the In School Detention Teacher in January 2013.  I really enjoy working with children.  I am a strict Disciplinarian.  Also, I believe in contacting parents or guardians about the student's behavior (good or bad).
